Gay Pride week 2008 wraps up in Toronto with the Dyke March on Saturday and the actual Gay Pride Parade itself on Sunday. I find it amazing just how many sponsors have stepped to the table this year to participate in the event, to the point where I think the whole thing is just over-commercialized?? Heck, if the Seniors for Pride have a booth set up, that's when you know you're over-commercialized! It's ok, it was fun to see the fairies come out to play.
American Eagle is going to be going thru yet some more growing/shrinking pains. Their president just left, their Back to School lineup sounds confused, and their Martin + Osa venture just isn't taking off as hoped. Sounds like the retailers need some retail therapy!!

Not even a day fresh after the NBA draft, the #3 pick OJ Mayo is traded from Minnesota to Memphis. Basically, Minnesota picks up Kevin Love, Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, and Jason Collins. Memphis gets Mayonaisse, Marko Jaric, Antoine Walker, Greg Buckner. Kind of a useless trade by two useless teams if you ask me, but I do like the look of Al Jefferson and Kevin Love for Minny right now.

The Pacers and Blazers also made a deal, sending Jerryd Bayless and Ike Diogu to Portland, and Brandon Rush, Dukie Josh McRoberts, and Jarrett Jack to Indiana. Neither team will make the playoffs next year.

Mark my words, I tried to told you, Mayo is a big mistake for Minny. Other notables, Kevin Love at #5 to Memphis, DJ Augustin at #9 to Charlotte, Mareese Speights at #16 to Philadelphia, and that brings us to the Raptors at #17. The Raptors take Roy Hibbert at 17, which many think will be traded to Indiana along with TJ Ford and Rasho Nesterovic for Jermaine O'Neal. If that's the case, not a bad pick for Indiana, if not, good to have a solid backup for Bosh. We all know the good history of Georgetown Centers in the NBA. Will find out on July 1st what the deal really is. Another memorable moment, Danilo Gallinari taken by the hometown Knicks at #6 to a resounding round of boos, and "who?". Just priceless. Patrick Ewing Jr to Sacramento at #43 (watch for this kid!!)
On the other side of the river, the NJ Nets traded Richard RJ Jefferson for Yi Jianlian and Bobby Simmons. Not a bad deal for either squad as the Bucks need a scorer behind Michael Redd, and the Nets need to unload salaries to be able to sign King LeBron in 2010. Oh, did I say that out loud? Ooops.
The other have of the Euro 2008 Semifinals saw Spain killing Russia 3-0. Quite anticlimactic actually.

Ok, so whomever is doing this in Toronto is just sick and twisted. Someone in High Park is putting poison (Antifreeze) in the dog park water supply, they also soaked some bread in it, and now has positioned some dead raccoons with flowers in their paws in various places around the park. Just sad sad sad sad sad.

Well, it didn't take long at all for the Blue Jays to panic. They fire Jay Gibbons and his whole crew and replaced him with 64 yr old Cito Gaston. I don't have anything against his age, but c'mon now, what does Cito know about these guys and the league these days? He does look in good shape though, but c'mon now...that was 1993!! For the record, Cito is 0-1 to start off his comeback, and the Jays are still in dead last in the East.

Congrats to the 08 Boston Celtics, NBA Champeens!!

The Celtics finally ended the 2008 NBA Season with a giant Exclamation mark 131-92. Defense Wins Championships!! Congrats to the 07-08 Boston Celtics and especially to KG, PP34, and Ray-Ray for getting a hold of their first rings ever! The Lakers put up a fight for all of one first quarter, and then folded like a house of cards. The Celtics were up by as much as 43, and never looked back after their 26-6 run in the second quarter. I Told You That Kevin Garnett Would CRY!!!
Congrats to Paul Pierce for getting the Finals MVP also. My pick would have been KG, but I guess PP34 filled up the stat sheet a bit better. That, and the Game 1 heroics didn't hurt either!!
The Toronto Raptors officially waived Jorge Garbajosa today, as much turmoil finally ended with his injury, his wanting to play for Spain in the Olympics, and his coverage of his salary in the NBA. Ironically, some of that money will go to re-signing his buddy Jose Calderon.

The latest in the Euro 2008 scores, the Netherlands goes undefeated and scores the most goals in the round robin with a 2-0 victory over Romania. Italy beat France 2-0 to make it into the next round also today. So now Portugal faces Germany and Croatia faces Turkey in the top half of the bracket. The other half has Spain vs Italy and the Netherlands vs the second place team in Group D which looks like Sweden if you ask me.

Eldridge Woods pulled off an incredible 18 holes of playoff golf to win the 2008 US Open. Rocco Mediate put up a good fight, but Tiger's determination got him through the pain of his bum knee.
Good news for Tarhole fans, their trio of Lawson, Ellington, and Green are coming back to UNC campus next season. They came back with their tails between their legs after workouts and NBA combines proved that they were just not up to snuff just yet.

The 2008 Much Music Video Awards kicked off under cloud and rain showers, but that didn't stop the eleventeen yr olds from coming out in hoards!!

The regular hubbub set Queen St abuzz what with acts like NKOTB (Not so new Kids On The Block), Rihanna, Kardinall, Jabbawockees, Hedley, Simple Plan, Girlicious, and more.

Flo-Rida showed up in the Lambo, niece Nevaya would have loved to go for a spin around the block in it!

Somewhere in that blur is the Jabbawockees.

Gotta love the TDot. I know it's slanted, but then again, so was I by this point in the night. The batteries also dried up, and I was tired from running back and forth from watching the show and the NBA Playoffs game 5.

Speaking of which, Kobe Mamba took his team a wee bit further through the playoffs by beating the Celts 103-98. Another sad road loss for the Celtics, but at least this will be their last road game of the year. Last two games are in the Garden in Beantown, and I wouldn't bet against the Celtics to lose both of 'em. At least I hope not.

My boy Eldridge Woods will play in a 18- hole playoff to decide this year's 2008 US Open champion. His opponent, Rocco Mediate, the oldest player in the open this year. That's just great, what better than a Fifth round of golf for a guy like Tiger who was hobbling around all day on Sunday on his bad knee?!? Hopefully he can put it together for a full 18 and make Big Earl proud once again.

Oh yah, somewhere in there yesterday Turkey beat the Czechs 3-2, and the host country Swiss spoiled Portugal 2-0.

My cousin Eldridge Woods shot an incredible third round of 70 an a one stroke lead heading into the Final Round at the 2008 US Open. A wicked Eagle at 13, a crazy Birdie at 17, and another increcible birdie at 18, all on his sore knee, was just the stuff that legends are made of! This could be something that will play on highlight reels throughout the golf world forever. Rocco Mediate shot a third round 72, but gave up the lead, looked like he was trying to beat Tiger playing in the group behind. I guess when Tiger's on the course, he really does get into your head that way! Tiger will play with Lee Westwood in the Final Round as the last pairing for Sunday. Should be a legendary one!

Spain continued to dominate in Group D as they beat Sweden 2-1, and Russia eliminated Greece 1-0.

The Italians tied the Romanians today 1-1, big disappointment for Italy. The biggest match of the day, perhaps the tournament was the Netherlands beating the French 4-1 though!! Wow, the Dutch have scored 7 goals in 2 games, and beat both World Cup finalists in consecutive games!! What's more, the Dutch have had 6 different scorers amongst the seven goals scored!! Wow. I might just have to break down and pick up that orange jersey at the Nike Shop!

Then the defense for the Celtics showed up strong and shut down the whole Staples Centre! The Celts ended up outscoring the Lakers 57-33 in the second half, and win 97-91. Weird. The Celtics take a 3 games to 1 chokehold over the Lakershow as Game 5 is still in LA.
