For those of you who are curious, this is what I wrote to MuchMusic concerning the Jay-Z incident on Saturday:
"Please explain what just happened today? I'm not sure I completely understand this whole process and purpose of inviting people to speak to artists that they actually admire. Add to that, if my questions were not deemed appropriate or intelligent enough, I would have hoped that I did not just waste and afternoon of preparation to be knowingly let down. I would not have taken it so personal if I was already planned on not going to be on air. I just wish I could have those 3 hours of my life back. There are few opportunities that any of us get the undivided attention of our idols. I have been robbed of mine. Please advise, thank you."
I finally got a response back today (2 days later):
"MOD is a LIVE show meaning everything can change at the last minute.
We make all the preparations, but unfortunately since it's LIVE we need to add or drop things to fit the one hour show format.
I wasn't actually looking after the webcams during the show. We had someone else taking care of it. We're sorry we weren't able to get to your question.
We hope for the best, but it doesn't always turn out that way.
In fact, we had another fan whose webcam question didn't get to air either.
Please don’t take it personal! We can't 100% guarantee you'll be on."
This was expected, to have a pretty typical blanket, hide-behind-the-system, type of response. It doesn't work for me, but it IS a response I guess. It is not only disappointing, but very cowardly in my eyes. In my industry, if someone screws up, you own up to your mistake, you do the right thing, and you fix it. That means at least taking ACCOUNTABILITY for the mistake and fixing the situation so that it does not happen again. I did write back and let them know politely that it was a pretty poor response and that I would not again be able to watch their program nor their network in quite the same way again.
Funny incident, Baby Brooklyn's babysitter asked me "Why don you have Much Music on your cable anymore?" She noticed that the station had been blocked from our TV's. I told her that it was a matter of principle, and we could no longer stand to watch a network that has such poor values. Meh.
